The championship rounds for the BLGA's inaugural season are less than a week away. As the season comes to an end, we will take a look at what golfers you should be watching close as we wrap up the 2022 season.
Twelve golfers have earned the right to compete at Pine Lakes Golf Course for the 2022 BLGA Championship. With the league's handicap system, hoisting the trophy at the end of the week is truly possible for anyone in the field.
After finishing the regular season at the top of the standings, Hayden Clements is certainly a favorite to walk away with the championship. His 26.7 handicap will work in his favor as he is the most improved golfer of the year. Playing each week with Trent Rarick seemed to have a big impact on his game as Hayden has improved his gross scores from 121, 118, and 112 at the start of the season, to 96 and 92 in his last two rounds. If he can stay in the 90s at Pine Lakes it will be tough for anyone with a low handicap to keep up.
Speaking of low handicaps, it's no surprise that Trent Rarick and Rudy Munter are two golfers to keep an eye on next week. Both golfers have won a tournament this year and their experience should help them in the high pressure championship rounds. Trent is coming off two top five finishes, with a win at The Kellogg Classic. Rudy had a tough round in bad conditions at Pine Lakes in the preseason, but was able to go out an post a gross score of 78 on his own later that week, a score that could be good enough to get him the win.
Shay Barbee is our last golfer to have on your radar for the final chapter of the season. Shay has been everywhere on the leader board this season, but this is a guy that can put it all together and jump to the top at any point. Despite coming into the championship inn 8th place, Shay took the win in the final tournament at Metamora Fields. Shay has played Pine Lakes a lot and this seems like a perfect course for him to capitalize on his long drives as long as he can keep it on the fairway.
