What is the BLGA?

The BLGA, in short, is a local golf league that plays different courses each week. The "Beer League Golfer's Association" was based off the idea of bringing the PGA Tour to the average golf fan. We use the PGA scoring system for standings, we have a major tournament during the season, and a championship at the end of they year. The best part is the handicap system we use so truly, anyone can win.

For some guys, The BLGA is a way to compete in sports the way they did weekly or yearly at a younger age. For others, it's a good excuse to get out of the house for awhile with a few friends each week and forget about work. Many guys in the league just simply enjoy playing new courses in the area and meeting new people. The league wasn't made for guys to win a bunch of money or to brag about how good they are at golf. To put it simply, the league was created to have fun, relax, and create a culture that welcomes everyone.

So, how does the league work?

Our league has a weekly schedule where each player plays the assigned course any day from Monday through Sunday with another player(s) from the league. The goal for our league is to give everyone a chance to play around their schedule and compete with anyone. The players keep each others scores on an app that automatically keeps their handicap along with a weekly leader board. At the end of the week prizes are handed out, standings are updated, and an article is posted to keep everyone up to date and to bring the season to life.

Outside of the weekly schedule, The BLGA offers a mid-season major championship at Coyote Creek Golf Course with a trophy designed for the winner to drink a celebratory beer from. At the end of the season there is a 2-round league championship for the top 12 players in the standings. The final round of the championship is played with all 12 finalist together for a fun day to celebrate the season.

For our 2023 season we will be adding several events during the season including a Ryder Cup style team event, a 2-man scramble outing, and even a giveaway to play at TPC Deere Run. Our plan is to bring as much value to our members as we can over the entire golf season.

I know what your'e thinking, this sounds like a blast, BUT I have vacation, work, family, and so on during the summer. No problem, our points system is specifically used so that you can play when you have the time and skip the weeks you can't make it. Do you already play golf regularly with a friend and don't necessarily want to play with a bunch of new people? That's fine too! Sign up together, play the courses on our schedule with your buddy and compete with the entire league at your continence.

We are excited to grow this league and make it better every season. Our goal is to work hand-in-hand with local businesses and courses to provide something great for everyone involved. We would like to extend this league from Peoria to Bloomington and hopefully to Springfield some day soon. I want to personally thank everyone that played with us in the 2022 season and for their patience and help as we make this into something special. We hope to see you on the course with us for our 2023 season!
